President’s Message

Dear Members and Visitors,

It gives me great pleasure to address you as President of Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association. As we navigate an ever-changing energy landscape, our shared commitment to affordable, reliable and sustainable power remains our guiding light.

Over the past 27 years our association has worked tirelessly to represent your interests-engaging with utilities, regulatory bodies and policymakers to ensure that the high-tension consumers receive fair treatment, improved infrastructure and transparent billing. We have pushed for greater efficiency, sought opportunities for renewable integration and, promoted best practices in energy management.

Looking ahead our priorities include strengthening our collective voice in energy policy discussions, supporting modern technologies that enhance efficiency and reduce costs and build partnerships across industries to share knowledge and create synergies.

Your active participation is our greatest strength. I encourage each member to engage in dialogue, suggest improvements and contribute to our initiatives. Together we can shape a future where high-tension consumers thrive in a fair, competitive and sustainable environment.

Thank you for your trust, cooperation and commitment. Let us move forward with determination and optimism.

Warm Regards,
L.Santhosh
President

Dear Members,

The continuing challenges in India’s power distribution sector directly impact industrial competitiveness, consumer welfare, and overall economic growth. Financial stress, high AT&C losses, inefficiencies in billing and collection, and delays in infrastructure development continue to affect the efficiency and sustainability of DISCOM operations.

Privatisation of DISCOMs is increasingly being discussed as a major reform initiative. While private participation can improve operational efficiency, accountability, technology adoption, and access to capital, privatisation alone cannot resolve deeper structural and regulatory challenges. Meaningful reform requires strong regulatory oversight, transparent tariff mechanisms, consumer protection, balanced risk allocation, and continued investment in grid modernisation and service quality.

The objective should not merely be privatisation, but the creation of a reliable, affordable, and efficient power distribution ecosystem that supports industrial growth while safeguarding public interest.

At this juncture, I also express my sincere appreciation to our Hon’ble Chief Minister and the newly appointed Electricity Minister on assuming office. We look forward to constructive engagement with the Government and expect focused action on tariff transparency, timely grievance redressal, improved grid reliability, and progressive policies supporting consumer-side renewable energy and rooftop solar installations.

Further, I would like to draw the attention of members to the upcoming IEX Seminar scheduled in June. The seminar will provide valuable insights into the latest developments in the energy market, policy trends, and power procurement opportunities. I strongly encourage all members to participate and benefit from this important industry interaction.

As President of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers Association (TECA), I assure you that our Association will continue to engage constructively with policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders to support reforms that strengthen the power sector and improve competitiveness for consumers and industry alike.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

With Regards,
L. Santhosh
President
